Finally, the big fight is on. Officially, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor confirmed that they would have an encounter.
After several months of constant negotiations and many speculations about the money, the place of the fight, the rules, etc., two of the most popular fighters in this era announced some details regarding their clash.
They confirmed that the fight is on and that it is scheduled for 26th of August in Las Vegas, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Both fighters stated this, on their social media profiles this Wednesday.
We had many considerations about the rules of the fight, but it seems that it will be a standard boxing match, lasting 12 rounds and with gloves weighing 10 ounces.
This spectacle will be one of the most expensive in history, and according to several sources, more than a half a billion dollars is involved. Fighters are going to receive at least $100 million each.
“It’s definitely the biggest fight ever in combat sports history, and probably going to be the biggest payday ever,” Dana White, the Director of UFC said in an interview.
“Let’s just put it this way – all sides involved are pretty happy with their deals.”
Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports, which will be responsible for distributing pay-per-view packages, stated that this event is much bigger than anyone thinks, and that he believes this will be something unforgettable.
“As we’ve already seen this evening, Mayweather vs. McGregor has generated buzz that reaches far beyond that of the considerable boxing and MMA audience. Both Floyd and Conor are trendsetting personalities who’ve transcended their respective sports. They carry unmatched reputations for spectacle and athleticism, and together they will create a once-in-a-lifetime event.” he said.
Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers in history. He has a perfect record in his career, with 49 victories, and without a single defeat.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is the best that MMA has to offer and the first fighter in the history of the UFC who won held two championship belts at the same time. Besides that, the Dublin-born is probably the hottest media figure in the fighting world.
At this point, we have an early prediction from the bookmakers, which are saying that Floyd Mayweather is a favorite, but in an unusual match like this one, we have to add that there are no underdogs and favorites. Whichever outcome happens, it will be no big surprise.
McGregor is maybe in a better position because his last fight took place 6 months ago, while Mayweather entered the ring for the last time on 12th of September in 2015.
He is 11 years older than his opponent.
But for a legend like him, we are sure that this isn’t going to be any difficulty. Mayweather has another advantage because the fight will be under boxing rules, which is something that Conor McGregor has never experience before.
So, for 26th of August, remove everything from your schedule, and enjoy the fight.
