The first tennis player in the world, Rafael Nadal reached his 16th Grand Slam title, and he did it with style.
The legendary Spaniard defeated Kevin Anderson in the finals of US Open, stating that currently, he is without a doubt the best player on the planet.
Bull from Manacor smashed the South African with 3-0, 6:3, 6:3, 6:4, not allowing the slightest bit of hope for his opponent. Seeing Nadal on the court today was astonishing, and he proved his form.
Nadal at the age of 30, played his 23rd Grand Slam finals. On the other side, his challenger appeared for the first time in this situation.
That was evident right from the start because Nadal was working convincing throughout the whole match. His opponent didn’t have such an approach, and it seems that Anderson was a bit frightened with the importance of the contest.
We have to say he did not provide such a massive defiance, and that we expected more. Especially, because Anderson is not some young player.
2 hours and 27 minutes of play at Arthur Ashe Stadium, were a bit small for this event. Nevertheless, Anderson wasn’t disappointed, and he left the stadium with a smile on his face.
“It’s been an amazing two weeks for me. To make my first final of a Grand Slam has really been special. I can take a lot of positive from this summer. A lot of emotions to deal with. I was up against a pretty good opponent today. I’ll continue working hard to give myself more opportunities. I’ll take it a day at a time and I’m really pleased with how things turned out here.”
This was a second grand slam of the season for Nadal in his third finals.
After 2010 and 2013, this is his third trophy at Flushing Meadows and his second most successful Grand Slam.
The key reason for his win was the fantastic service. This was something which was supposed to be the biggest strength of his opponent, but Nadal had 84% points won on the first serve, and it is incredible to hear that he did not allow one single break point during the whole match.
“It’s been a very special two weeks for me,” Nadal told and continued “For me, personally it’s unbelievable. After a couple of years with some injury problems, it has been very emotional since the beginning of the season. Since the Australian Open, I’ve been playing a very high level of tennis. Winning here in New York gives me great energy because the crowd is unbelievable. They make me feel so happy.”
After this event, he is going to stay at the top spot in the ATP standings, with a decent advantage over Roger Federer. These two guys are already qualified for the Masters in London.
The last Grand Slam of the season is over, and we have to say that the best man won. We saw many surprises, good matches, and excitement, and we can’t wait next year.
