Nicky Hayden is still fighting for his life, after a tragic accident which he suffered in Italy.
This was said, in an official statement issued by his current Superbike team Red Bull Honda.
Hayden’s tragedy shook the sports world, and all around the world, fans are praying for the life of the American rider. His brother Tomy and mother, Rouz, immediately flew over from the United States and went to the hospital to join their closest relative.
The former MotoGP champion was hit by a car, while he was driving his bicycle. This incident took place in Rimini in Italy, this Wednesday afternoon, and the site of a car after that collision, shows the horrific intensity of this crash. The right side of the car was entirely demolished, and it seems that the speed of vehicles was pretty high.
Hayden was instantly given help on the spot of the accident, and later transferred to the nearby hospital where he is still in critical condition and fighting for his life.
According to Maurizio Bufalini from Cesena hospital, the American suffered a severe cerebral damage, followed with polytraumas and chest injuries. It is still unknown, what consequences will Hayden have, if he survives.
Kentucky Kid, as the fans called him, and who accepted that nickname, has only 35 years. In his career, he won MotoGP title back in 2006, and he did it in the time when Valentino Rossi was unstoppable. Hayden snapped his streak of five consecutive titles.
Born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky, right from his early age, he discovered a passion for motorcycling, and quickly he became one of the sensations in this sport.
When he turned 17, he started racing for Honda in Superbike championship.
In 2003, he joined MotoGP caravan, again in Honda, and previous to that he won the AMA championship.
Then, after four years he became the champion in the most prestige motorcycling competition in the world.
Later, in 2009, he became Ducatti driver, and in 2014 he came back to Honda, his favorite manufacturer.
Last year Hayden decided, that he wants a new challenge and he joined Superbike World Championship, as a Red Bull Honda driver.
In his MotoGP carrer, Kentucky Kid has 3 victories, 28 podiums and 5 pole positions in 218 starts.

“Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team rider Nicky Hayden was involved in an incident while cycling near Rimini, Italy yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, 17th May)
“Following the incident, Nicky was treated on site by medical staff and then taken by ambulance to a hospital near Rimini for immediate treatment. Once Nicky’s condition was stabilized, he was transferred to Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena and remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
“Members of Nicky’s team and his fiancé are with him in the hospital.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and messages of support and the assistance of emergency and medical services. Once an official statement regarding Nicky’s condition is released by the hospital or Nicky’s family, a further update from the team will be issued.”
