The European basketball will have the new champion in two days from now since the reigning one is eliminated from the race. CSKA Moscow was defeated by, who else then, Olympiakos Athens in an epic battle 82-78.
Also, in the second clash of the titans, the Turkish pride, Fenerbahce won against real Madrid 84-75, and we are anxiously waiting for the finals between the best Turkish and Greek clubs, which will decide the new kings of Old Continent.
The opening game of the night was between Olympiakos and Cska Moscow. Like in the majority of matches played at this stage of the competition, the Greek club was better, and the Russians once again failed to accomplish their goals at Final Four.
Meetings with Olympiakos became some curse for the Russian champions, and again Sinan Erden Arena became the place of misery for those CSKA fans. The Russian champions were leading trout the whole match but in the end, just like five years ago, magnificent Vassilis Spanoulis took the game into his hands and pushed his team to another final. After 5 straight missed 3 pointers, Spanulis brought the first lead for Olympiakos with 75 seconds until the end of the match. CSKA Moscow tried to come back trough Milos Teodosic, who leveled the game at some points, but in the end, the Serbian international missed a key 3-pointer, which allowed the Greeks to start celebrating.
Among the winning team, 3 players had the same number of points Spanoulis, Printezis and Papanikolau, 14.
Milos Teodosic had a team-high among the losing team with 23 points.
In the second game of the night the hosts who were playing in front of their crowd defeated Real Madrid 84-75, and for the second year in a row, they will appear in the final game of the season. Right from the start, Fenerbahce indicated that they would dictate the tempo in this game and they gained a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Apart from Sergio Llull, there were no players who would keep Real Madrid in the game during the first half time. Later, Carroll stepped up, and he and Llull scored 49 points combined, and the rest of the team only 26. That is not enough against the team like Fenerbahce.
In the decisive moments, Real Madrid couldn’t hit a three-pointer, and this is the time, when Fener pressured the opponents, eventually progressing to the finals.
Until the end of the game, Fener kept their lead with Bogdan Bogdanovic and Ekpe Udoh excellent performances. Udoh had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while the Serb had 14 points.
The finals will take place this Sunday in Istanbul, at Sinan Erden arena. The first whistle will be heard at 8 p.m. CET, and the match for the third place will start at 5 p.m. CET.
It will be Olympiakos’ 4th title or the first one by Fenerbahce, in their history.
Put everything aside, and be sure to catch the spot in front of the TV this Sunday.
Prepare for taking off, the Euroleague finals are starting.
